Local musicians kick off Thursday summer concert series

REED CITY – More than 50 people came to the Reed City Depot June 14 for the first free music event of the summer.

Eight local musicians showcased their talent with country, rock and gospel favorites such as “Mind Your Own Business,” “Pretty Woman” and “King of the Road.” The group also played songs requested by those in attendance.

Led by guitarist Ron Ouderkirk, the group included Phil Noder on the mandolin and guitar, Marilyn Jones on the fiddle, Mike Kilmer playing the bass, Corey Jones playing the drums, Randy Steig on the banjo and guitar, Charlie Simon and Katie Steig and both playing guitars. Missing from the crew was musician Pete Jordan.

Organizers were pleased with the turnout and expect numbers to grow at the concerts throughout the summer.

The group will play their second concert at 7 p.m. on June 28 at the Reed City Depot. The series will continue throughout the summer on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month until Sept. 27 when a celebration including a bonfire and cookout will end the series.
