Jim Cummings Band kicks off Musicale

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Summer is finally really here and there is a busy calendar of events in Osceola County with tons of entertainment opportunities for visitors and area residents as well.

With both midweek and weekend concerts and hands-on art ‘happenings’ throughout the area, there is something to do most afternoons and evenings.

Following a short drive up and down U.S. 10 folks can usually find and take advantage of two or three musical events..

In Evart, it’s time to dust off lawn chairs.

The Evart Downtown Summer Musicale series is about to begin.

This year, the kick-off comes with an exciting offering from points south.

The Jim Cummings Band will take the Musicale stage at Evart’s historic Depot on Thursday, June 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

According to program reviews, this is a show that spans a wide range of powerful, exciting, and audience pleasing music performed by exceptional musicians.

The group’s style shift’s back and forth from rock, to funk, to rhythm and blues.

The Jim Cumming’s Band has toured extensively over the years performing with some of the biggest names in rock-n-roll. This band can please any audience, young or old.

Jim Cummings has been playing bass and singing lead since he was 13 years old. He has toured as a bassist with Gregg Allman and Odyssey and has worked with The Beach Boys, The Tubes, Edgar Winter, Grand Funk Railroad, Alice Cooper, and others. Jim has played on hundreds of film scores and has starred in touring productions of “Jesus Christ Superstar” (Jesus), “Little Shop of Horrors” (The Plant), “Miss Saigon” (The Pimp), and “My Favorite Year” (Alan Swann).

Gary Fields of the Gary Fields Theater said the Jim Cumming’s Band “…is the most entertaining and polished group that plays here. They are also the most requested by far, and we book a lot of bands. I wish I could get them more often.”

And they will be in Evart ... for free!

All Musicale concerts are offered at no expense to the public.

“I think we’re looking at an exciting series ahead of us,” said DDA program coordinator Darcy Salinas.

“We have a good variety of music lined up this year.

“It’s been exciting watching things come together,” she continued.

“There are a lot of good performers out there. We are always looking for something new and something interesting.

“We try to provide musical programs that might not be offered anywhere else in this area – to give people a chance to come, bring their children and grandchildren and enjoy an afternoon or evening of great music while sitting out on the lawn.”

With hundreds of participants in the annual Woodcarvers’ Round-up already filling the Osceola 4-H FFA Fairgrounds, the weekly offering of Evart’s Downtown Musicale series of concerts will certainly become the “place to be” on Thursday evening.

Bring a lawn chair and good spirits.

“It’s going to be fun and a good time,” said Salinas with a smile. “The kinds of groups we have scheduled usually draw a good crowd.”

The complete 2011 Musicale schedule is already available from the Evart DDA office and can be obtained by calling (231) 734-6119.
