OSCEOLA COUNTY — A former Osceola County Sheriff avoided serious injury Tuesday when the transport van he was driving rolled on M-115.

Retired Osceola County Sheriff Tom Dettloff now works for the Missaukee County Sheriff's Department transporting inmates. Around 1:50 p.m., Dettloff was returning from Jackson Prison, heading northbound on M-115, when a truck made a left hand turn into Dettloff’s van near 70th Avenue in Osceola County.

This caused the transport van to roll several times, said Osceola County Undersheriff Justin Halladay.

“Thankfully, the van has a cage in it, which helped prevent the vehicle from getting crushed,” Halladay said. “The accident could’ve been much worse than it was.”

Detloff was checked out at Cadillac Munson Hospital, but he and the other driver sustained no serious injuries. The other driver was at fault and was cited, Halladay said.
