Hersey to host 'Name the festival' contest

HERSEY — The celebration of an all-new festival in will kick off in Hersey this year Friday on August 10 and Saturday, Aug. 11.

This new festival will replace Hersey Heritage Days, which were last held in June, 2010.  Events currently planned for the new Hersey festival include a pancake eating contest, community flea market at Mosaic Park, the traditional Hersey co-ed softball tournament and, of course, a parade.  However, all events are subject to change.

The currently unnamed festival will be named through Hersey’s Name the Festival Contest, which began in April and runs through May 25.

Prizes for Hersey’s Name the Festival Contest will include a stay at Hersey’s Blodgett Landing Campground and Park among other Hersey-centric gifts.

Rules for the contest are as follows:

  • To enter, submit your name, telephone number, email address, county of residence and Festival name suggestions to Hersey’s Name the Festival Contest, PO Box 126, Hersey, Michigan 49639.  Email entries may be sent to herseyheritage@ymail.com.
  • For consideration, submissions must adhere to a “river theme,” i.e. RiverFest, River Days or Carnaval de Río.  These names listed as example will NOT be considered.
  • No more than two (2) submissions per household will be accepted.
  • All entries must be submitted by Friday, May 25, 2012 at 5 p.m.
  • The winner will be contacted by phone the evening of May 30.

The new Hersey festival is being planned with room to grow as Hersey grows in years to come, and will include fun for the entire family.  Details about events will be released as they become available.
