HERSEY — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the bustling Osceola County community of Hersey.

Santa IS coming to town, and Hersey residents and visitors to the area are looking forward to greeting him during the first celebration of “Christmas on Main.”

On Friday, Dec. 2, the evening will be turned over to the magic of Christmas throughout the Hersey community.

The event is being planned with hopes that it will be a continuing event held the first Friday of December each year.

“Hersey’s Christmas on Main  is an old-fashioned Christmas celebration for the entire family,” reported organizing committee member Ernie Clark.

“Santa Claus will be greeting children young and old at the Hersey Roller Mill Store beginning at 6 p.m. and through 8 p.m.

“During that time we expect folks will stop in and let the big guy  know exactly what they’d like to see under the  Christmas tree this year.”

Planners encourage visitors to bring their cameras and not miss an opportunity to snap a photo of the kids with Santa.

At 8 p.m. the Jolly Old Soul will make his way to the  Hersey Village and Township Hall for the official lighting of the community Christmas tree.

“The tree lighting ceremony is set to include singing of Christmas songs, a reading of the Christmas story by members of Liberty Baptist Church’s youth group, and more,” noted Clark.

“Small” is definitely the buzzword for this inaugural event,” continued Clark. “Keeping Hersey’s Christmas on Main small in 2011 allows room to grow and to become part of the people of Hersey’s Christmas tradition organically.”

Plans to expand the celebration are already under consideration with Hersey’s Christmas on Main’s first parade scheduled to debut in 2012.

And there is more happening in the  Hersey community.

In addition to Christmas on Main, planning has begun for a flea market-style event to take place in late spring or early summer of 2012.

Also, a replacement for the now defunct Hersey  Heritage Days is being planned for September 2012.

Details about  these events will be released as plans come together.

Hersey’s Christmas on Main is being planned by Hersey Heritage Days, LLC in cooperation with the Village of Hersey, the Hersey Roller Mills Store, and MOSAIC Potash.

Hersey’s holiday kickoff promises to be a lot of fun for the whole family.

Don’t miss it.
