OSCEOLA COUNTY — Area residents will have the opportunity to experience Christmas during the Hersey United Methodist Church's (HUMC) annual Holiday Time Activities.

"There's cookies and cocoa, if they so desire. Or they may even watch some activities from their car," HUMC member Betty Seelye said.

Beginning Dec. 16, HUMC will be hosting a variety of holiday activities, including Silent Nights, Live Nativity, a Christmas program and a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.

"My favorite part is the Live Nativity," Seelye said. "The general public will get to experience Christmas through the live nativity with real animals."

This year's Live Nativity will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20. Among the animals will be a donkey, sheep, pony and all the cast in costume. After the performance, viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy cookies and hot cocoa.

While the live nativity scene is Seelye's most-liked part of the holiday festivities, she said her favorite part of the season is spending time with her family, and taking the cold weather as a chance to slow down and reflect on the year — a chance many guests will be given during the Silent Nights programs Dec. 16-19.

"If they wanted to pray to somebody or to come into the sanctuary for self-reflection, they will have the chance to do that" Seelye said.

Ending the holiday activities, HUMC will be hosting a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24. During the service, Seelye said there will be some choral performances from the church itself.

"It's very beautiful," she said. "It's just a chance to get the Christmas experience."

All events will be hosted at HUMC, 200 W. 2nd St., Hersey.
