G.T. Norman to host kindergarten round-up
REED CITY — G.T. Norman Elementary School is hosting a kindergarten round-up to give families an opportunity to experience a typical day in a kindergarten classroom.
The round-up will be held on March 13, with students whose last names begin with A-L arriving at 5:30 p.m., and students whose last names begin with M-Z arriving at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can pre-register for school, meet teachers, gain an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and tour classrooms.
To be eligible for kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year, children must be 5 years old on or before Nov. 1, 2013. Parents should bring their child’s birth certificate and an updated immunization record to register.
“If the children have never been in a school setting before, (the round-up) is a great opportunity to visit the school. I think the first year of kindergarten is a really exciting time for families,” G.T. Norman kindergarten teacher DeAnna Goodman said in a press release. “Along with the excitement comes some anxiety. Kindergarten round-up helps initiate the partnership between the school and the home.”
Information packets will be distributed at the round-up to let parents know what they can do to prepare their children for school. For more information on the Reed City Area Public School district, visit www.reedcity.k12.mi.us or call G.T. Norman at (231) 832-5548.
