Free food, fun to be offered at Evart's National Night Out

EVART  — The grills will be fired up, prizes will be awarded and laughter will fill the park during National Night Out in Evart next week.

Hundreds of community members will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to celebrate National Night Out at Riverside Park. In its 10th year, the event focuses on bringing people together and encouraging positive interactions with law enforcement officials.

"As police officers, not all our interactions with the public are positive, but for this event everyone is happy," said Evart Police Chief John Beam."Everyone gets along. It's an event people look forward to and talk about for weeks afterward."

The Evart Police Department, Osceola County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police will be in attendance. The Evart Fire Department and Hersey Fire Department also will be present.

"The Hersey Fire Department will have their fire pans, giving people the opportunity to use an extinguisher and put out flames," Beam said.

Ten16 Recovery Network will bring a peddle cart and "drunk googles," which have manipulated lenses to let people experience impairment at varying levels, Beam said.

The night also will offer tons of fun activities such as a dunk tank, inflatables and other games. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served up, along with sweet treats of cotton candy and snow cones. The event is free.

"We give away lots of prizes and it's a night of fun," Beam said. "We get so much support from local businesses to be able to put this on for our community."
