REED CITY — Making healthy eating your lifestyle and preparing healthy meals day after day can be challenging. But help is at hand.

Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals are offering a new class in their free “Helping the Whole You” series of health seminars this month with a presentation on “Healthy Eating for One or Two.” Identical meetings are scheduled in Big Rapids and Reed City and include a free lunch.

• Wednesday, April 18, noon to 1 p.m. at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, 435 North Michigan Avenue in Big Rapids.

• Thursday, April 19, noon to 1 p.m. at Michigan Works!, 240 East Church Avenue in Reed City.

Open to all, the sessions require advance registration by calling 231.592.4204 or visiting www.spectrumhealth.org/htwy.

Healthy eating tips will be offered by Yaying Tian, clinical dietitian at the local hospitals, who will focus on the low sodium “DASH” eating plan, interpreting nutrition labels and other suggestions. Steve Dorey, Spectrum Health executive chef, will also be on hand to discuss food preparation for one or two, and to prepare an affordable, low sodium dish with samples to those attending.

Another free Helping the Whole You session is scheduled for May 16 and 17. The focus will be on Preventing Identity Theft and Spotting Scams.

Those interested are invited to sign up now for one of the sessions in April and/or May. A new series of free classes will be offered in the fall.
