Four people injured in Osceola County accident on M-115

HIGHLAND TWP. — A chain reaction accident Sunday afternoon in Osceola County resulted in multiple people being injured.

At 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 6, Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a four-vehicle accident on M-115 near 19 Mile Road in Highland Township. Upon arrival, deputies assisted EMS and fire/rescue with treating the injured.

Several vehicles were stopped on M-115 southeast bound behind a car that was turning left onto 19 Mile Road. A Toyota Prius, which also was heading southeast bound failed to stop for the vehicles and rear-ended a stopped Toyota SUV. This caused the Toyota SUV to hit the vehicle in front of it, and then continue into the northwest bound lane, resulting in a head-on collision between the SUV and a small car going northwest on M-115.

Three patients were transported to the hospital by Osceola County EMS and Missaukee County EMS. Another patient was transported from the scene by AeroMed.

All occupants were wearing safety belts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The accident remains under investigation. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office also was assisted by Marion Fire/Rescue, Evart Police Department and Michigan State Police.
