EVART — Evart was buzzing with activity on April 4 as families gathered at the Evart Municipal Airport for the annual Easter Egg Drop.

Five thousand Easter eggs of all colors were dropped from a helicopter, showering the ground already littered with 11,000 additional eggs filled with candy and small toys.

"It was a great way to welcome spring and it went very smoothly," said Melora Theunick, event organizer. "People really enjoyed the helicopter."

The windy, chilly weather appeared to cut attendance to about half of the 2,500 people who participated last year.

"We did seem to have about 1,000 people show up this year, but that just meant the kids got more eggs and the area wasn't overly crowded," Theunick added.

Kids rushed to gather about a dozen eggs for themselves, hoping to find one of many “Golden Tickets.” Finders received a free pizza. In addition to the Easter eggs, four raffle winners went home with a new bike and one winner received a one-night stay at the Osceola Grand Hotel. Tickets were available for a low cost, and about $600 was raised for next year's drop.

Following the event, families also were able to take a ride on the helicopter for $25.

"This Easter Egg Drop is always a blast," Theunick added. "We're very appreciative to all the businesses who sponsored the event."
