Reed City holiday kick-off set for this weekend REED CITY — Evergreen Festival weekend is drawing closer and folks throughout the Reed City community and visitors to the area are getting ready for a wonderful kickoff to the 2011 holiday season.

The Christmas holiday season offers people of all ages a chance to change their pace and enjoy the best that life has to offer.

During the days and weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday excitement grows and the thrill we felt as kids at the coming of the holiday season returns to make this a nostalgic and memory-filled time of year for many. One way of recreating the spirit of Christmas past while creating the spirit of Christmas present is by joining with family, friends and neighbors in Reed City s annual holiday season kickoff - the Evergreen Festival. The Evergreen Festival takes place the weekend following Thanksgiving Day and offers a lot of fun for everyone. The weekends activities begin this year on Friday, Nov. 25 with the annual Art and Crafts Spectacular to be held at Reed City High School. As in years past, the show will be held at Reed City High School on both Friday and Saturday, and will open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those meandering through and looking for a really special Christmas offering. There’ll be more than 100 booths and admission is free to those planning on strolling through the display areas. This is a much-anticipated part of the Evergreen Festival and is useful for getting early ideas as to what to give to that special person in your life. Saturday, Nov. 26, the annual Evergreen Santa Parade will make its way through the downtown business district beginning on West Upton Avenue at 1 p.m. There are a lot of floats, music and fun for all involved both in the parade and spectators. The theme this year is “A Storybook Christmas on the Polar Express.” Organizers expect this year’s parade to be bigger and better than ever. Don t miss this one. Following the parade, Santa will be available at The Depot to meet with his admirers - both young and old - from 1-3 p.m. There’ll be real reindeer on hand - a great chance to get your photo snapped with a honest-to-goodness visitor from the North Pole. The annual Ginger Bread Cookie House will be set up at The Depot. You can visit following the parade. There’ll be a roaring bonfire, gallons of hot chocolate, lots of cookies, and even an chance to hug an elf! (Later in the holiday season, there will be time for additional visits with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, and on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Evergreen Festival is a great way to kick off the holiday season in the spirit of the best traditions of community Christmas celebrations. Come visit Reed City. You’ll feel at home.
