Evart teachers recognized as outstanding educators

LAKE CITY – Three representatives from Evart Public Schools received recognition at the 35th annual Michigan Education Association 15-B district’s awards banquet on April 14.

The district is made up of Cadillac, Evart, Forest Area, Manton, Marion, McBain, Mesick, Pine River and Wexford-Missaukee schools.

Each school system nominates teachers or support staff to receive Outstanding Persons in Education or Friends of Education awards.

Steven Stange, a high school teacher who has taught in Evart for 14 years, received the teacher’s Outstanding Persons Award. He was honored with the same award in 2001-02.

Linda Tapling, the RTC Coordinator at Evart Elementary School, was awarded the support staff Outstanding Persons Award. Tapling has worked in Michigan public schools for six years.

Shannon Kozitzki was named Evart’s 2010-11 Friend of Education. She has been a parent volunteer at Evart Elementary for six years.

The awards event was held at Timber Wolf Lake and included speaker Dick Slagter, UniServ director.
