Evart residents gather to mark Memorial Day

Hundreds of area residents and visitors gathered at Evart’s Guyton Park and many more lined Main Street to honor the fallen servicemen and women who  gave their lives in the defense of this nation in all of the country’s wars. Following a short service at the park under the auspices of local veterans organizations, Evart Mayor Eric Schmidt offered a few words appropriate to the occasion on the topic of heroism and personal responsibility. Following the speech, a parade made its way to the Muskegon River Bridge where another short memorial was held. The crowd then assembled at Forest Hill Cemetery for a final salute and ceremony.
