Evart library holds fundraiser

EVART — The Evart Public Library is holding a fundraiser to compensate for library programming lost in state budget cuts.

Starting March 15, the library will have collection containers at its front desk and librarians will be visiting business in hopes of raising $6,000.

Due to state budget cuts, the library lost funding for their summer reading program for children and for the purchase of new books. A thermometer in the library window allows community members to see the progress toward the $6,000 goal.

The library also will host a celebration dinner and live auction to end the fundraiser on April 21 at the Moose lodge. Items to be auctioned off include a hot air balloon ride for two from Grand Traverse Balloons, tickets to a wine tasting event for six at the Chateau Chantal Hotel, an autographed photo of the Detroit Tigers, an autographed photo of a Detroit Red Wings player, golf passes from Caberfae, ski tickets from Crystal Mountain and much more. An auction bill will be distributed in the community prior to the event.

The dinner will be at 5 p.m. with the auction starting at 6 p.m. A 50-50 drawing will be held at 6:45 p.m. Participants do not need to be present to win. The dinner costs $7 for adults and $4 for children over 5. Children under 4 get in free.

Tickets for the dinner can be purchased at the library, located at 104 North Main St. in Evart, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, or by calling (231) 734-5542.
