Evart gears up for month-long Christmas celebration

EVART — The holiday spirit will envelop the city of Evart this year as Christmas in a Small Town features events for the entire family through the month of December.

Christmas in a Small Town is the name for the entire list of features the community is set to host and enjoy through Christmas Eve.

"I like how the community comes together and celebrates the holiday," said Evart Mayor Casey Keysor. "The atmosphere is joyful and there are a lot of activities going on."

The Christmas Carnival is the kickoff to the month-long calendar of events, with activities taking place at the Evart Depot and Crossroads Community Church. Typically more than a thousand people head downtown to enjoy the fun.

"I think for a lot of people, attending the carnival is a family tradition and I think it's a great time," said Evart Downtown Development Authority Director Al Weinberg. "It's a relaxing atmosphere and it's a multi-generational event."

The carnival will feature many events to attract everyone from children to senior citizens. This year, families can enjoy games, pony rides, hot dogs and hot chocolate, face painting, craft making, free family portraits, Euro Bungee, Christmas carol wagon rides and the opportunity to visit with Santa Claus. It also will provide entertainment with a Christmas Comedy Show at the church, showcasing comedic skits and parodies to make attendees laugh throughout the afternoon, along with presenting the Christian meaning of the holiday.

Weinberg said prizes are up for grabs at the carnival as well. Families can enter to win a tubing experience at SpringHill Camps by participating in the "Where's the Wise Men?" quest, and can win an Evart staycation at the Osceola Grand Hotel by completing the Family Challenge — visiting five to seven activities during the carnival.

In addition to the carnival, bazaars, Christmas programs, concerts and more are slated to take place throughout the weeks leading up to the holiday. Attending could be one of the best chances to get into the holiday mood, Keysor said.

"Bring the family, bring the kids, and enjoy a wonderful time of shows, activities, food and fun," he added.
