EVART — Timed perfectly with tax return season, a number volunteers and vendors hope Osceola County residents will take away sound financial advice during Show Me the Monday Day.

Show Me The Money Day is a free statewide event coordinated by the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan and hosted locally by the Evart Downtown Development Authority. Its goal is to provide Michigan residents with financial resources, workshops and access to community-based programs that promote financial security, home ownership and ways to make the most from tax returns.

The event will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, at Evart Middle School. Food will be provided by 7th St. Coffee Co. and feature prizes such as $100 in Evart Bucks, smoke detectors, Consumers Energy vouchers and more.

"The whole point is to help people do better with their household income," said Evart DDA Director Al Weinberg. "It's geared toward residents and helping improve their quality of life. It's almost like a live 2-1-1 event."

Show Me the Money Day will feature financial workshops, tips to become employed, home owner and renter information and more from a number of local agencies geared toward being a resource for individuals and families who need assistance. Weinberg said he hopes those who attend will gain confidence concerning finances for all aspects of life.

"I think we have some really cool prizes and I think it's cool to give away things that go toward what we're talking about," Weinberg added.
