Evart cheerleaders second at home meet

EVART — Evart’s competitive cheer team placed second at its home meet on Saturday.

“We had our season’s highest score in rounds one and three,” Evart coach Marty Pattee said. “The team did an excellent job competing against some tough teams. We had an amazing third round. Breckenridge was first.

“I am so proud of how far this team has come. They never give up and will surprise some teams at districts.”

Among the key sophomores for Evart this season has been Kirissa Hays. She also cheered in her eighth-grade season.

“It’s going pretty good,” Hayes said. “We’ve improved a lot than we did last year in jumps, back handsprings and walkovers.”

Hays is a tumbler and also works at base.

“With my team, it’s all about trust,” she said. “I can improve a lot.”

Evart’s next competition is Wednesday in Marion. Districts are on Feb. 16

“We want to stay in shape and reach our goals,” Hays said.
