Evart, Pine River have contested races for school board

OSCEOLA COUNTY – A decision previously made in May, voters now will decide who will represent local school districts on their boards of education will be decided in the November election.

This will be the first year board elections are held in November, under new state law. Some districts have switched from four-year terms to six-year terms in order to stagger the board turnover now that elections can be held only in November of even years.

The following people are running for board positions in Osceola county:

  • Evart Public Schools (two six-year terms): Alan Bengry, current board president with 24 years of experience as board member; Alan Benson, current board vice president with 40 years of experience as board member; and Charles Walter
  • Marion Public Schools (two six-year terms): Chris McCrimmon, current board member; and Monica Cox, current board president
  • Pine River Area Schools (two six-year terms): Allen Peterson; Roland Schalow, current board treasurer; and Tom Schook, current board member
  • Reed City Area Public Schools (two four-year terms and one two-year term): Jim Dawson, current board member with eight years of experience; Joe Kickak; and Ross Momany
  • Current board members Dave Lucey and Cathy Todd are not running for re-election.
