Evart High School announces its top students of 2010-11

EVART — As members of Evart High School’s Class of 2011 near the end of their academic careers, a couple of special graduates are being saluted for exceptional effort throughout their school days — and especially over the past four years.

The Evart Public Schools administration, teachers and staff are pleased to announce the Class of 2011’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian.


The EHS Class of 2011 Valedictorian is Courtney L. VanGarderen - daughter of Lee Anne and Robert Williams and John VanGarderen.

Courtney is a life long resident of Evart and during her time in school has been involved in volleyball, track, National Honor Society, student government, and the Spanish Club.

She is a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church congregation. Courtney is logging a 3.95 Grade Point Average and plans on attending Ferris State University as an Honors student to study for a bachelor’s degree in Architecture Technology.

“I will finish my degree with a master’s degree from the University of Michigan,” she said. “My goal is to have my own architecture firm after college.”


The EHS Class of 2011 Salutatorian is Courtney L Hooker - daughter of Richard and Nancy Hooker.

During her time at EHS, Courtney has participated in Spanish Club, National Honor Society, student government, volleyball, softball, basketball, Bible quizzing, and dance.

She has built of a 3.86 Grade Point Average and plans to attend Mid Michigan Community College.

“There I will begin my general classes then transfer to get a degree in the medical field,” she said.

Other honorees as the Class of 2011’s “Top 10” students include: Amanda M. Melanson, Karena N. Hipkins, Kandace T. Gray, Tyler C Mishler, Nicole M. Leutz, Carmen R. Parsons, Victoria J. Frank and Rhianna M. French.

The Wildcat class colors are blue and black. Students chose the lily as their class flower, and voted on “September” by Daughtry as the class song. The Class of 2011’s motto is “Life brings us tears, smiles, and memories – the tears dry, the smiles fade, but the memories last forever.”

Senior Honors Night will be held Thursday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the in the high school gym.

Graduation is planned for Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m. in the high school gym.
