Evart GFWC hosts Meet the Candidates for council candidates

EVART — The Evart General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) hosted its “Meet the Candidates Nigh

t” on Monday, Oct. 24, at The Depot in Evart.

John Joyce and Rick Machleit, both of whom are seeking election for positions on the City Council, and Heather Pattee, who is unopposed on the ballot for city clerk, joined the GFWC and guests for a question-and-answer session and some refreshments.

Both Joyce and Machleit were asked questions by moderator Ruth Ann Northon. There were questions presented in advance by the public and the GFWC and there also were questions taken from the audience.

Both council candidates shared their thoughts, hopes and goals for the City of Evart. What was of importance to both candidates is that Evart is their home. Both were sincere in their desire to establish open communication between the city and the residents.

Many topics were touched on, including: lighting, sidewalks, curbing, funding, priorities, infrastructure, maintaining, blight and follow through just to name a few.

Pattee discussed some of the things that fall under the “hat” of the clerk. Among daily office duties, the clerk also is responsible for the elections, keeping records, writing grants and the cemetery.
