Evart Farmers Market kicks off June 14

EVART — Fresh items, healthy options and friendly interaction can be found at this year's annual Evart Farmer's Market, which begins Saturday, June 14.

The market, located on the grounds of the Evart Depot, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 11, rain or shine.

Market Master June-Marie Essner said most of the vendors who participated last year will be selling items again this year, and she is expecting more.

"I think shoppers like the atmosphere a lot and the variety that we have," she said.

Fresh produce, baked goods, meat, flowers and more are expected to be sold by local farmers and growers.

To help kick off the June 14 premiere market, members of the Great Start Collaborative will be on hand to spread awareness of the organization and what it can provide to members of the county.

"I'm looking forward to having Great Start there and I'm hoping that will generate some buzz to other organizations to come out and take advantage of the free booth that we have," Essner said. "It's still fun for me to be the Market Master and enjoy talking to everyone that comes through."

Another upcoming attraction is the performance by Mulligan Stew, an Irish band out of Cadillac, who will perform during the June 21 market.

In addition, Bridge Cards, WIC Fresh, Market Fresh coupons and Double Up Food Bucks are accepted.
