Evart Chamber opens Welcome Center

EVART – The Evart Area Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center was established last week at the Osceola Grand Hotel on US-10. The new center will be a base for visitors to the area to find out about local attractions.

In the past, the chamber phone number has been directed to the Evart City Hall or to the home of a chamber official. The same phone number is now forwarded to the hotel and answered by receptionists. The hotel also has a rack of brochures from chamber businesses and a sign in front of the building.

“It’s nice because it’s centrally located and gives our businesses a place to advertise,” said chamber president Connie Douglass.

Hotel receptionists have been trained on how to assist callers and visitors and Douglass said the new location will be mutually beneficial for the hotel.

“A lot of the phone calls we get are from people asking, ‘Where can we stay when we come there?’” Douglass said.

Osceola Grand Hotel owner Dave Foster said he proposed the idea of having a welcome center at the hotel after hearing of the chamber’s potential plans to use the terminal building at the airport. To avoid having to staff a separate welcome center and to offer 24-7 service for chamber inquiries, Foster offered his hotel for the center.

“I thought it would be a convenient thing for both the chamber and the hotel,” Foster said.

The hotel received calls from citizens with questions about the area events prior to being a base for the welcome center. Foster said he expects the new agreement to help his staff assist guest at the hotel.

“”My guests are always asking me what’s happening in town,” Foster said. “I think this is just going to help us serve our guests better.”

The hotel now has a sign in front with the city logo, created by Dion Mitchell of Image Graphics. The city logo can be found in many places around the city of Evart, including the city hall,

“The city is doing a nice job using that logo. It makes us more unified,” Foster said.

The Evart Area Chamber of commerce currently has 78 members. The local business owners are united with the mission of supporting and encouraging business opportunities, development and retention in Evart and the surrounding area.

Chamber membership costs $100 per year and benefits include group health insurance rates, advertisements at the new chamber location and opportunities for networking.

The chamber recently agreed to take tickets at Evart High School softball and baseball games and track meets this season as part of an initiative to work together with Evart Public Schools.
