Evart Chamber hosts beard, mustache contest
EVART — There are many reasons one might grow a beard during the pre-winter months. This year, the Evart Chamber of Commerce and Moose Lodge No. 2452 are hoping to offer one more beard-growing incentive.
The first beard and mustache contest will run from Oct. 12 to Dec. 1. Beard-growers will receive awards for the longest beard, ugliest beard, best looking beard, best looking mustache, most unique looking mustache and beard and best looking goatee.
“A lot of guys grow beards during deer hunting season, but nobody ever gets rewarded,” said Bill Britz, member of the Evart Chamber of Commerce. “We want to make sure they get rewarded this year.”
To enter, people should have a picture of their face taken at the Moose Family Center or at Britz Realty Inc. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12. They do not need to be clean-shaven or from the Evart area to participate.
“We’re hoping to get some real unique beards,” Britz said.
The competition will end on Dec. 1 when contestants will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. for judging and hors d’oeuvres at the Moose Lodge. A panel of female judges will compare pictures taken at the beginning of the contest to each participant’s facial hair on Dec. 1.
Judges will award many “great prizes” to the owners of the prize facial hair. Contestants must be present on Dec. 1 to win any of the categories.
The contest has no entry fee and anyone able to grow facial hair — including females — is welcome to participate, Britz said.
“There’s nothing we’re raising money for, we just wanted to do something fun for the community. It’s all about fun,” Britz said.
Individuals using dyes or implants will be disqualified. The Evart Chamber of Commerce plans to make the contest an annual event during hunting season.
“A guy might not be able to get a deer, but he can grow a beard,” Britz said.
To enter the contest, individuals can stop by the Moose Lodge, located at 8400 U.S. 10 in Evart, or Britz Realty, located at 758 West 7th Street in Evart. For more information, contact Britz Realty at (231) 734-5554.
