Ebels General Store plans May soft opening

Construction process moving along, store now hiring

REED CITY — It's been nearly one year since the project initially started, and now, Ebels General Store in Reed City is preparing to open in the coming months.

“Ebels General Store is excited as the store is coming along and looks wonderful. We are very excited to be part of your community,” a recent post on on the company's Facebook page read.

The exterior of the building looks to be nearly complete, and work on the interior is moving forward. The new supermarket will be around 22,000 square feet and will include a meat market, grocery, produce and dairy items, along with a grab-and-go deli area with a separate entrance for quick pick-up.

Janet Bently, human resources manager for Ebels, stated in an email that the Ebels family is hoping for a soft opening in mid-May, and although the store is not yet completed, the initial hiring process has begun.

“The general manager for the new store, Jack Patty, and myself started the interview process last week,” Bently said. “We are focusing on our department managers first and hope to finish those interviews later this week. We will then start the interview process for other positions mid to late April.”

No positions have been filled at this time, but they plan to begin making offers next week, she said.

They plan to hire for 15 to 20 positions, both full-time and part-time. Anyone interested in applying should visit indeed.com.

The Ebels purchased the property on South Chestnut Street in December 2019, with plans to put a grocery store in the former Vic's Supermarket. The company officially broke ground on the location in August 2020 after delays due to COVID-19 restrictions.
