Deputies find missing person dead

EVART TOWNSHIP — On Friday, Mar. 2, at 11 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to a residence within Evart Township on the report of a missing person.

Upon arrival it was discovered that an elderly subject had failed to return home after leaving a relative’s home in Clare County.

Deputies conducted a search in Mecosta and Osceola Counties, which included forwarding this information to other agencies, tracking the missing subject’s cell phone signal and conducting a “city watch” mass phone-call system.

The next day, Saturday, March 3, the missing subject’s vehicle, which was abandoned, was located in a driveway in Mecosta County.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called in and located the elderly subject, who was deceased, a short distance from the empty car.

The cause of death is undetermined at this time pending the results of an autopsy, and the decedent’s name is being with held pending notification of family members.
