Daystar Christian holds Junior Convention

EVART – About 80 children from six faith-based schools and home schools showed off their talents at the Junior Convention held on Friday at Daystar Christian Academy in Evart.

The convention, for students in fourth through sixth grades, features many competitions from spelling and speaking to archery and baking cookies.

“We have categories in arts, academics, athletics, drama, vocal and instrumental,” said Doug Derscheid, an event judge.

This was the first year Daystar Christian hosted the event, which was previously held in the St. Johns area for 21 years.

Children spend many hours preparing to compete.

“It’s a neat, fun competition for the kids,” said Sharra Derscheid, a parent volunteer. “A lot of work goes into it.”
