Crowning this year’s Evart royalty

EVART — Competition at the annual Miss Evart and the Evart Prince and Princess pageant was both exciting and enthusiastic Monday, as 15 young people from the Evart community impressed an exacting panel of judges with their collective poise and talent.

Sponsored by the Evart Chamber of Commerce, the event was held on stage at Evart Middle School with five young ladies vying for the title of Miss Evart 2013, replacing outgoing Miss Evart 2012 Lydia Wetters. Seven juniors competed to be the city’s newest princess, and three boys set their caps for the prince’s crown.

All the young people, according to judges, put their very best foot forward and really went above and beyond in displaying their various talents including a flag routine, singing, dancing, a poetry reading, and even some exciting sniping with an air gun!

Judges included Bernedette Briscoe, from the Herald Review; MOTA director Ron Schalow; Nicole Weiss, from the Voice newspaper; and  county court representative Sharon VanBuskirk.

The contestents were judged after an interview, modeling casual wear, a presentation of public speaking skills in formal wear, and the demonstration of a talent. The younger participants did not take part in the public speaking program.

At the end of the day, however, despite the obvious talents displayed by all participants, there needed to be a choice made for Miss Evart and her young court.

Miss Evart for 2013 is 16-year old Carly Weinberg, a sophomore at Evart High School.

“I was really excited to win this contest,” said Carly. “I’m looking forward to representing our city in eh coming year.”

The 2013 Princess is Madison Hammer, a sixth grader at Evart  Middle School.

And the 2013 Prince  is 11-year old Alex Hamilton, a sixth grader at Evart Middle School.

Miss Evart will represent Evart at a variety of events throughout the year including the Independence Day Parade, visits to the Dulcimer Festival and the Woodcarvers Round-up, representing the city at the Osceola County Walk for Warmth and the annual Relay for Life.

The younger royalty will take part in the parade.

The evening was a great success with energetic participation by all involved.
