Crossroads Theatre Guild holds auditions

REED CITY — Actors and theater aficionados have the opportunity to be a part of the next comedy play to be performed with the Crossroads Theatre Guild.

Auditions for the play “Red Velvet Cake Wars” will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 27 through Aug. 29 at the Crossroad Theatre Guild’s performing arts center, located at 249 W. Upton Ave. in Reed City. Jan Renne will direct the production, set to take the stage during the first and second weekends in November.

“Red Velvet Cake Wars” tells the story of a family in Texas coming together for a reunion and three female relatives arguing about who can make the best red velvet cake. Bets are placed and the search is on for the best recipe. Meanwhile, everything that can go wrong takes place during the reunion, including a tornado.

“There are a lot of bizarre things that happen,” Renne said. “It’s chaotic and one laugh after another.”

Twelve actors — eight women and four men — are needed for the play. Renne said she is looking for outgoing individuals who are able to use a Texas accent and not afraid to perform some physical comedy.

“The more variety, the better,” she added.
