Community assisting a family after their Chase Twp. home burned last week

CHASE TWP. — The community is reaching out to the family of Kevin and Cora Thompson after fire completely destroyed their Chase Township home on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

A community effort is underway to help the Thompson family, currently staying in a hotel, get back on their feet.

The family is in need of any household items, appliances, and clothing.

Men’s clothing sizes are as follows: Pants, 38/30; shirt size, 2x; and shoes, size 10.

Woman’s clothing sizes are as follows: Pants, 13/14; shirt size, large; maroon scrubs; and shoes, size 7.

Girl’s clothing sizes are: 5, 8, and 12; and shoes sizes 2, 4 and 11.

Boy’s clothing size is 5, and shoe size 12.

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene on Wright Street and 84th Street after 4 p.m. when it was discovered flames started by a grill fire on the deck had spread to the house.

Fire crews from from Reed City, Hersey, Lincoln and Yates townships, and Big Rapids spent hours trying to contain the fire but the house was a complete loss.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
