LEROY — Her cross country career has ended for Pine River’s Kelsi Charles, but it was a very good one.

Charles had her personal record with a 21:06.0 at the regional meet in Bear Lake in late October. But she finished 29th, not high enough to advance to the state meet.

But it was her best regional performance. She won the Beaverton Invitational this season. She was eighth in her home Pine River Invitational in late September in 22:59.0.

Its her fourth high school season.

“Last year was a pretty rough year,” she said. “It just wasn’t my year.”

Before the season started, Charles was hoping to get into the low 21s. which she achieved.

“I need to work on hills,” she said; “That’s my downfall by a long shot.”

The team “is doing pretty good, but we got a little setback when, with our second runner, we found out she has some (healthy) issues going on,” Charles said.
