Chamber looking for Citizen, Business of the Year nominations
REED CITY — Each year, Reed City honors and recognizes individuals and businesses within the area who prove they are dedicated to the community.
Members of the Reed City Area Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for the annual Michigan Week Dinner, and part of the preparation is accepting nominations for the Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year awards.
"It's nice to have an awards celebration to celebrate our community, citizens and businesses," said Reed City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Suzie Williams. "It's our way to say thank you and that we noticed what they're doing."
For Citizen of the Year, individuals should nominate a person who has a positive impact on Reed City, and lives, works or volunteers in the city. A written explanation of why that person is being nominated also is required, with the signature of the nominator.
Nominators who wish to submit their choice for Business of the Year need to pick a business that is a member of the Reed City Area Chamber of Commerce, be an established, for-profit company, and one that shows evidence of contributions to community-oriented projects. A written explanation is required for that nomination as well.
"I'm looking for individuals to nominate people who they see out in the community doing good things," Williams added. "They are so many who are deserving, and those people and businesses who have been nominated in the past can be nominated again."
Once nominations have been collected, a committee will go through each one and use a point system to determine the winners. The process can be very tough and each year the number of nominations can vary, Williams said.
Recipients of each award will be announced at the Michigan Week Dinner, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at Reed City High School.
The deadline for all nominations is Friday, April 10. All forms should be returned to the Reed City Area Chamber of Commerce office, located in the Reed City Depot, or by mail to P.O. Box 27, Reed City, MI 49677.
