City of Evart offers fireworks, parade, 5K and more Fourth of July fun

EVART —  Fourth of July festivities in Evart will kick off today with free fireworks and a concert. The fireworks will begin at dusk, with Flight, an Eagles tribute band, performing beforehand at 7 p.m. The concert will be held at the grand stands of the Osceola County 4-H FFA fairgrounds. Although various fundraisers are held throughout the year to help cover the $18,000 cost of putting on the fireworks, the Evart Chamber of Commerce appreciates donations. People from the chamber will be wearing vests and carrying collection buckets the night of the fireworks.   Fourth of July 5K walk, run Independence Day in Evart will kick off with a Fourth of July 5K walk and run on Thursday July 4. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Evart High School. Runners will start on the course at 9 a.m. This year is only the second year for the event, but Ken Willems, the event’s organizer, said he expects a good turnout. Participants still can register for the 5K. The cost for adults is $25 and $15 for students up to 12th grade. The 5K will conclude at Riverside Park with music, food and refreshments. Along the route there will be aid stations and water spray stations.  
Parade, Party in the Park Walkers and runners will fill the streets in the early morning, but by 11 a.m. the Fourth of July parade will take over Main Street in downtown Evart. The parade is a free, fun time that everyone can participate in. Law enforcement, politicians, old cars, bands and businesses are featured in the parade. There is no cost to march or have a float in the parade, and people can enter the same day. Those looking to register before the parade can call the chamber at (231) 250-8700. The parade will conclude at Riverside Park around noon to start the Party in the Park. Party in the Park will feature live music, a slip and slide provided by the Evart Fire Department, inflatable bounce houses, bingo and other free activities. The Evart Car Club will be at the event, along with the traditional chicken barbecue hosted by the Evart Lions Club. Mayor Eric Schmidt said local vendors selling food and other merchandise are encouraged to set up booths in the park. Vendors can register by calling the chamber. The day will be a time filled with family fun activities, allowing people to relax and unwind.
