Cadillac man arraigned on breaking into marijuana grow operation
REED CITY — One of the men shot while allegedly trying to steal marijuana from an Osceola County garage has been arraigned on charges of breaking and entering.
Anthony Gabriel Shurlow, 19, of Cadillac, is charged with one count of breaking-and-entering and one count of conspiracy to commit breaking and entering. Both charges are 10 year felonies. He also is charged with one count of attempted larceny in a building.
According to police, the breaking and entering occurred at approximately 4 a.m. at a residence on 15 Mile Road near 130th Avenue in Rose Lake Township. Shurlow and another suspect are thought to have been attempting to steal marijuana plants from a grow operation, when they were confronted and shot by the homeowner.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office became aware of the incident after being contacted by staff at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital, where the two shooting victims went for treatment of their injuries. While Shurlow was released from the hospital, the second breaking-and-entering suspect/shooting victim was transferred to Traverse City for further medical treatment.
According to Osceola County Undersheriff Justin Halladay, the second man remains hospitalized, but charges are filed.
"He has not yet been arrested or arraigned on the charges because of his condition, but he will be once he is released," Halladay said.
Police have not yet spoken with the homeowner who allegedly shot the men, Halladay said. It also is still unclear whether the grow operation is legal medical marijuana or not.
"We still have had no contact with the homeowner and do not have his side of the story in the matter," Halladay said.
