CANDY, COSTUMES AND COMMUNITY

REED CITY — Droves of costume-clothed children and adults joined Halloween festivities during Saturday’s Halloween in the Park at G.T. Norman Elementary School in Reed City.

Halfway through the event offering trick-or-treating, a free vision screening, bike giveaway and static displays of heavy machinery and visitors from local businesses and more, event organizer Amber Hutchinson was able to take a quick breather between refilling dozens of buckets of candy for the long line of children.

“Wow, how amazing is this?” she said smiling. “It’s pretty neat. We’ve already exceeded the 800 who came out last year.”

Hutchinson said Saturday’s warm weather played a big factor in the large turnout.

“It’s great to see all the families here, and many of them dressed in costumes that go together,” she said. “The families are having a nice, safe time and everyone seems to be having fun.”
