Brett Walker having strong season for Coyotes
REED CITY — Brett Walker is one of a few Reed City wrestlers with an extensive amount of experience this year, and is hoping to help the team be competitive all season.
A senior, Walker posted a winning record as a sophomore and junior. He started out this season at 7-2. He’s wrestling at 189 pounds and is hoping this will prove to be his best season. He went to the regionals last season
“I plan on going to regionals and at least getting second, and then going to the state tournament,” Walker said. “It will take a lot of hard work, working as hard as I can, and having a good wrestling partner.”
He’s wrestling the same weight class as he did a year ago.
“This year, I’m a lot better on the bottom and at escapes,” he said. “I’ve been getting good at underhooking.”
Walker expects to see Chippewa Hills and Fremont as being among the top teams in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division.
“We need to wrestle our hardest against these teams,” he said. “Last year we were pretty young and this year we’re pretty young.”
Walker has also run track and played baseball for Reed City in the past.
The Coyotes wrestle at home on Wednesday against Chippewa Hills.
