REED CITY — Boys basketball season tips off next week with area teams facing each other to get ready for their conference schedules.

Reed City is set to host Evart on Nov. 27, and then will play at Pine River on Nov. 30 in non-league action

Evart is at Forest Area on Thursday and opens its Highland Conference schedule on Dec. 7 at Pine River.

Prior to playing Reed City next week, Pine River opens the season at Houghton Lake on Monday.

Reed City was 12-9 last season. Many Coyote players were on the football team which ended its season on Nov. 11

“Hopefully we can catch up with the rest of the teams on our schedule after a late start,” Reed City coach JJ Eads said. “If healthy after a long football season, we could be a pretty solid team.”

Evart hopes to have a winning season this year and will return Carter Pritchard to the lineup.

Pritchard sat out all off last season with a leg injury. But another starter, Billy Conklin, broke his keg during football season and is questionable for basketball.

Pine River coach Brian Goodenow likes his team’s prospects.

“We finished last season 7-14, with a very young group,” Goodenow said.

“We made great progress the second half of the season and the highlight was watching this group grow closer together and building a very strong foundation for the future.”
