Boy Scouts retire American flags

FLAG RETIREMENT: Reed City Boy Scout Troop No. 74 held a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day at the Reed City Depot community fire pit. Scouts respectfully retired 30 flags that had been dropped off for the ceremony. Troop members included Life Scout Troy Todd, who opened the ceremony by playing Taps. First Class Scout Dalten Sible spoke about the history of the American flag and the purpose of retiring a worn flag. Other troop members who participated in the ceremony were Life Scouts Walter Venema, Sam Venema and Scott Whitman; Tenderfoot Scout Bryce Glasgow; and Scouts Mason Johnson and Dakota Robinson.
