Bowl-a-thon benefits commission on aging

EVART — Members of the community are invited to knock down pins to support the Osceola County Commission on Aging's meal programs.

The first Bowl-A-Thon event will take place 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Twin Oaks Bowling Center and Lounge on U.S. 10 outside of Evart.

"I've always wanted to do a Bowl-A-Thon, but we were never able to get into Twin Oaks until now," said COA Advisory Board Member Sally Zoyopoulos. "I didn't want to go out of the county to do one."

All proceeds will benefit the COA's Meals on Wheels program and congregate meals at four locations across the county, which benefits hundreds of seniors and takes a load of worry off family members and caretakers.

"I think the program is vital to the whole county," Zoyopoulos said. "Everybody is going to get old at some point and we want to be able to continue the meals."

Zoyopoulos said the event is in need of four more teams, but individuals who cannot find a team will be able to join an existing one and participate.

"Just because the event is in Evart doesn't mean it's just for Evart," Zoyopoulos added. "This is a county-wide event. It's a fun time and I think it's original."
