EVART — To help raise money for the medical expenses of Kate VanMourik, the Twin Oaks Bowling Center and Lounge in Evart is hosting a Rock for Kate Benefit Jamboree on Sept. 16.

VanMourik, a recent Evart High School graduate, suffered severe head trauma after being struck by a vehicle on her bicycle in late July. VanMourik still is in the hospital.

The event will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. and will feature live music by four bands. Xplicit Citizen, 4 Play, The Freeway Band and Highway Salute all will perform at the jamboree at Twin Oaks, located at 11377 U.S. 10 in Evart.

“It’s basically four bands who all donated their time to come in and put on a benefit jamboree for (Kate’s) family,” said Danielle Grein, general manager of Twin Oaks. “All of my staff has donated their time. We want to do something fun for her family.”

Along with musical performances, a silent auction, drink specials, raffles and concessions also will be available at the event.

Benefit events held at Twin Oaks in the past have raised up to $8,500. Grein hopes to top that with the Benefit Jamboree.

“I would be absolutely ecstatic if we could raise $10,000,” Grein said.

Community members can attend the event for a donation of any amount. All proceeds will go to VanMourik’s family.

Organizers still are in need of silent auction items for the event, including household items, furniture and anything else. Items can be dropped off at Twin Oaks until the day of the event.
