EVART — Competitors exhibited their showmanship skills on Wednesday as they entered the Osceola County 4-H/FFA Fair arena for swine judging.

Young exhibitors worked to keep constant eye contact with the judge while guiding their hog around the show ring in each class of senior, intermediate, junior and beginner 4-H'ers. Allyssa Johnson was named the senior showman.

"It is great to win. I've been off for years," Johnson said, explaining she took a break from showing swine for the past few years.

Johnson enjoys showing pigs and decided to lead one around the arena one more time as this was her final year of 4-H. She advises young 4-H'ers to work with the pigs, keep eye contact with the judge and have fun.

These were tips young Brooklyn Retlewski kept in mind when she entered the ring.

"I wasn't nervous," the 7-year-old said about the judging. "I just want to try again. Maybe I'll do this again next year."

Retlewski also showed chickens and a turkey this year. The biggest difference between poultry and swine, she said, is a pig is bigger.
