Battle Creek woman injured in motorcycle accident

OSCEOLA COUNTY — A woman was critically injured after being ejected from a motorcycle on Wednesday.

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 1:50 p.m. to the scene of the accident, located on southbound U.S. 131 just south of the Osceola/Wexford county line. A man and woman, both from Battle Creek, were traveling southbound on U.S. 131 when one of the motorcycle’s tires blew out, causing the man to lose control. The motorcycle overturned and the woman, age 55, was thrown into the road.

Due to the extent of her injuries, she was flown by AeroMed to Spectrum Health Grand Rapids. As of Thursday, she was listed in critical condition. The man, age 52, sustained minor injuries and was treated by ambulance personnel.

Traffic on southbound U.S. 131 was shut down to allow the helicopter to land and pick up the injured woman. The highway was completely reopened by 4:10 p.m. after the scene was cleared.

Both riders were wearing helmets. The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Osceola County Emergency Medical Services personnel, Tustin Fire and Rescue and Leroy-Rose Lake Fire and Rescue.
