Applications available for Reed City Royalty Pageant

REED CITY — It’s the time of year to dust off the crowns and tiaras and name the 2017 Reed City Royalty.

Applications to participate in the Reed City Royalty Pageant, hosted by the local chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, are available and can be found on the group’s Facebook page or at various locations.

"This gives young people confidence," said GFWC member Shelly Scharlow. "The pageant shows the community what a good group of kids we have."

A recent photo and a few paragraphs about the applicant should be attached to the forms before turning them in at the Reed City Area Chamber of Commerce by Friday, Aug. 11. Contestants should indicate the appropriate category, based on grade level, for which they are applying.

New this year, the category for male applicants has expanded from prince in the kindergarten through fifth-grade level to include junior king at the sixth- through eighth-grade level and king for boys in ninth- through 12th-grade. The three categories available for female applicants — princess, junior queen and queen — are based on the same grade levels. All contestants receive a pageant T-shirt.

Also new this year, talent has been removed from the competition. Judges will base their decisions on the applicant’s interview, poise, public speaking and their ability to represent of Reed City. Practice and interviews will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Crossroads Community Theater, 249 West Upton Ave., in Reed City. The pageant will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the theater.

Families interested in applications can find them at the Hersey Roller Mills Store, in Hersey; Chase Express, in Chase; and Kiddies Klubhouse, Precision iCare, Head to Toe Salon and Spa, Rustic Retreat, Nica’s Boutique and Consignment and Magnolia Boutique and Gifts, all in Reed City.
