Application deadline nears for OCCF scholarships

OSCEOLA COUNTY — High school seniors looking for college scholarships have a limited time to submit an application through the Osceola County Community Foundation.

The OCCF awards scholarships each year to hard-working and motivated students from throughout the county. In 2013, 37 scholarships totaling over $42,000.00 were provided. Since the program’s inception, more than $359,000 has been awarded to deserving students from every corner of Osceola County.

The scholarships, which range from several hundred dollars to more than $1,500 each, are financed by permanently endowed funds held by the community foundation. Some are funded through estate planning or memorial contributions and others result from planned charitable gifts from philanthropic organizations or groups.

The student application process takes place entirely online, by accessing the application through the scholarships tab on the OCCF website, at occf.info. Applicants will be linked to the application site, through the Fremont Area Community Foundation, where the applications are processed and eligibility is verified. The deadline for submission of all application materials is at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. For further information, students can see their high school guidance counselor or can contact the OCCF via the website.

One especially attractive feature of the OCCF scholarship program is that only one application needs to be submitted to access any of the scholarships. Students will automatically be entered into consideration for all OCCF-held scholarships for which they qualify. Awards will be made at the senior recognition assemblies at each county high school during May.
