All shook up: The King visits Reed City VFW Post

REED CITY – From “Let me be your Teddy Bear” to “Blue Suede Shoes,” Elvis tribute artist Jake Slater serenaded crowds at the Reed City VFW post Friday.

Audience members fondly recalled songs they listened to before tapes or CDs were invented. Some left with a teddy bear or a photo of Slater, given out during the performance.

The event was sold out and sponsored by the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary. Organizers were pleased with the turnout and all money raised goes toward the organization’s general fund.

The Reed City VFW and Ladies Auxiliary are both in their 76th year of operation. The VFW currently has 200 lifetime members and 129 Ladies Auxiliary members, but a fraction of those are actively involved. Each club welcomes new members.

Individuals interested in joining the VFW must have served in a foreign war. Those interested in joining the ladies auxiliary must be mother, wife, daughter or granddaughter of any veteran of a foreign war.
