CEDAR TWP. — A 62-year-old man is dead following an off-road vehicle crash near his cabin in Cedar Township.

Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a well-being complaint at the man's cabin shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The complainant said the man, whose home is in Shelby Township, left to go to his hunting property in Cedar Township around 10 a.m. that morning, but had not been heard from since.

According to a press release, upon arrival, deputies located the man's pickup and ORV/utility trailer parked in the driveway.

Deputies said they saw ORV tracks in the driveway, but did not see the vehicle.

After searching the area, the man was located a short distance from the cabin. Deputies said it appeared the man rolled the ORV down an embankment, and was subsequently pinned by the vehicle.

The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing, but police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor and the man was not wearing a helmet.

The sheriff's office was assisted by Osceola County EMS and Lincoln Township Fire and Rescue.
