LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Marion Fair: 'Moo-ving' forward

TO THE EDITOR: As the Marion Fair Board promised, we would like to give the community a quick 2017 Fair update. First of all, people spoke, and we listened — The Midway is back! Starting Wednesday, June 21, Schmidt Amusements will be set up and ready for riders and game players! Other events that will return are the Sunday evening gospel concert featuring Wyatt and Amber Howey, Super Kicker Rodeo and the Figure 8 Derby. This year Kid’s Day will take place on Wednesday with fun games planned and a special Midway discount. The Exhibit Building will once again have projects displayed, and we would like to remind all those who plan on entering projects for the Exhibit Building to fill and mail in the registration form by May 20. There are also several new additions to the fair this year. We will have The Whispering Pines Mobile Petting Zoo and Muxlow Exotics Mobile Reptile Zoo, a Special Needs Day with various activities, art from a couple of area schools on display in the Exhibit Building, and Mini Horse Pulls in the Grandstand on Wednesday night. We are excited to offer these new events! One change to note is that the Battle of the Bands, scheduled for Thursday evening, fell through due to lack of interest. There will not be an event in the Grandstands. However, Dwayne Spaw will be on the fairgrounds Thursday evening to provide free entertainment to those at the Midway. Bring your family, grab some food and enjoy some great country music! Planning continues, and a more detailed update will be given closer to fair week. As stated before, we cannot do this without the support of the community. If you have any questions or would like to sponsor the fair in anyway, please contact the fair office at (231) 667-0481. We look forward to seeing you at the Marion Fair 2017!
