EPS board approves $2 million in bond projects

EVART – Members of the Evart Public Schools Board of Education approved more than $2 million in projects during a special board meeting on Monday night.

In attendance, board members Rosie McKinstry, Ryan Hopkins, Kelly Millen and president Alan Bengry approved bids for projects outlined from when district voters approved a bond measure in November 2015.

Aaron Grove, project manager with Wolgast Corp., told the board the bids were received under budget, and even presented some alternate bids to members.

“Even though we had a couple things that no one bid on, everything that did come in, was within its range from what I projected,” he said.

Three items, drywall installation, resilient hard-tile flooring and an asbestos abatement, did not have a single bidder, Grove said.

“We are talking to the general contractor about the drywalling job and we will be getting back with them,” he said.

The board approved the following bids at Monday's meeting:

  • General trades from Griffith Builders for $197,000.
  • Sports flooring from Bay Area Specialty Flooring for $47,515.
  • Carpet from Northeastern Paint Supply for $99,635.
  • Painting from Bud Percha Painting at a cost of $25,195.
  • Plumbing and HVAC systems for $1,443,520.
  • Temperature controls from ControlNET for $153,116.
  • Electrical from 3D Electric at $440,418.

Grove also assured board members that with the last three things still out without a price tag, the district will remain under budget for its bond projects.

“It's nice to know there will be room for some alternate projects,” Bengry said.

The next regular EPS Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at the board room, located at 321 N. Hemlock St.
