20 Years Ago JULY 6, 1994 ALMOST FINISHED Crews expected to wrap-up streetscape in next week Work crews are expected to have the bulk of streetscape work done by the end of the month – with an eye on a possible July 17 completion date, according to Evart city officials. Crews from McNeilly Contracting, of Farwell, were working on the downtown streets late last week. “I would say it’s probably about 75 percent complete and the sidewalks are about 90 percent complete, said Alan Bengry, a member of the Evart Downtown Development Authority, the lead agency for the renovation project. “So far everybody I’ve talked to has been real positive about what’s happening down town. A lot of people are coming in from out of town and their first reaction is to complain about all the dirt and the dust. Then they say that it will sure look nice when it’s all done,” Bengry said. Mayor Roger Elkins said the project “looks great” so far, but cautioned that it’s not the end-all for Evart’s economy. “We attended a seminar about six months ago where they talked about the idea that ‘build it and they will come.’ That’s not true. We still have more to do,” Elkins said. 40 Years Ago JULY 4, 1974 LOGGING TOOL NAMES VP L. W. “Bill” Wright has been named vice-president of the American Logging Tool Corporation.
