By the Evart General Federation of Women's Clubs OSCEOLA COUNTY\u00a0-\u00a0Ten women from the Evart General Federation of Women's Clubs attended the 120th\u00a0Annual GFWC State Convention in Grand Rapids from April 17 through April 19 and were\u00a0proud to\u00a0be recognized with several awards for some of their 2014 service projects. During the convention, the Michigan GFWC was awarded a proclamation signed by Governor\u00a0Snyder declaring April 25 as GFWC Day. The GFWC was organized in 1906. The Evart GFWC pride themselves in "volunteering for a\u00a0better community" in the Evart area, Osceola County and within the State of Michigan. Local projects include a\u00a0U.S. 10 Roadside Cleanup, Sweetheart Dance, St. Patrick's Day Tea, Strawberry Shortcake and\u00a0Parade on July 4, National Night Out and the Car Show Caf\u00e9. Club members actively keep their eyes and ears open for opportunities within the\u00a0community to provide assistance for immediate or a long term basis.\u00a0Evart members participate and support Guiding Harbor and Bay Cliff Camp.\u00a0Guiding Harbor is an organization founded by GFWC-MI that provides child caring and\u00a0childplacement services for abused and neglected children. Evart's Terese Witten is\u00a0President of the Board of Directors.\u00a0Bay Cliff Camp is a place where children and adults with physical disabilities learn to\u00a0believe in themselves, strive for fuller lives and realize their dreams. Evart members are involved with learning and protection for Domestic Violence Awareness\u00a0and Prevention for adults and children. They have worked and presently work with the Evart Police\u00a0Department, the Osceola County Sheriff's Department and Women's Information Service, Inc. Members of the Evart GFWC have served and do serve on state committees, representing the local\u00a0GFWC and our local area with loyalty and pride.\u00a0GFWC meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Evart.
